SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State women's soccer team played to its second consecutive draw on Friday afternoon in the team's CCAA opener versus Cal Poly Humboldt.
- New for 2022, overtime has been eliminated for regular season matches, meaning if a game is tied after the regulation 90 minutes, it will end in a tie. Previously, teams played two 10-minute overtime periods in a sudden-victory (golden goal) format, and if neither team scored, the game ended in a tie.
- Entering Friday, the Gators were averaging over 12 shots per match but SF State was held shotless for the first time in over a decade. It marked the fewest shot attempts since 2013 when the Gators recorded just one shot in a loss at Stanislaus State.
- SF State was outshot 8-0, including 3-0 on goal.
- Both teams attempted two corner kicks.
The first shot on goal came in the 27th minute by the Lumberjacks but that was stopped by Gators goalkeeper Marcella Salyer and the two teams spent the rest of the half trading the ball at the midfield. In the 56th minute, Salyer dove at the edge of the box to prevent a scoring opportunity. She made another stop in the 65th minute and prevented the Lumberjacks from stealing a win with a save in the final minute.
Salyer (1-3-2) made three saves and notched her second shutout of the season and the seventh of her career. Cal Poly Humboldt's Carson Thomson-Terrel (3-2-2) did not face a shot.
"Humboldt didn't give an inch. Our defenders were good and we were able to limit their chances," said Head Coach John DeMartini. "Welcome to the CCAA, that's why it's the hardest Division II conference, top to bottom. We'll take the point and get ready for Sunday."
