How It Happened

The Gators took their first lead in set one when they used a 6-0 run to take a 11-6 lead. Brianna DeBoer had a pair of aces while three different Gators landed kills. SF State maintained a three-plus point lead the rest of the way while holding SFU to a .077 hitting percentage.

During a back-and-forth second set, the Gators stayed in it thanks to eight attack errors and three service errors from SFU. A bad set gave the Gators the serve down 24-23 but SFU responded with a kill to close out the set.

Simon Fraser's attack was at its best during set three when they hit at .394 percent. The Gators had their lowest attack percentage during that set and clipped .109. Tied at 8-8, SFU used seven kills to take a 19-11 lead they would hold the rest of the way.

Facing defeat, the Gators responded well in set four. Down 5-4, SF State used a 10-1 run to take control of the set. SF State landed 13 kills and only had two attack errors.

SF State started the fifth set with a 4-0 run, forcing SFU to blow a timeout. Simon Fraser landed a kill coming out of the time out, but Josie Collier responded with a kill of her own. The Gators maintained a cushion the rest of the way to close out the set and take the match.
