HAYWARD, Calif. – The San Francisco State women's basketball team fell to Cal State East Bay 84-62 on the road. Despite strong play in the second half, a poor second quarter and foul trouble doomed the Gators.
- Gators fall to 7-8 on the season and 3-6 in the CCAA while the Pioneers improve to 7-6 and 4-5 in the CCAA
- Three Gators finished in double figures in scoring: Taimane Lesa-Hardee (14 points), Samaria Velazquez (11 points) and Jolene Armendariz (10 points).
- SF State committed a season-high 29 fouls, giving the Pioneers many opportunities at the line throughout the night. East Bay went 27-for-44 at the strip.
- The Pioneers out-rebounded the Gators 56 to 36.
- With three more steals tonight, Lesa-Hardee now has 183 career steals, tied for fifth all-time.
Gators struggled to make shots in the first quarter, only making two baskets. They stayed in the quarter thanks to opportunities at the line.
Samaria Velazquez went 5-for-6 to help cut the deficit to 19-13.
A 12-0 run by the Pioneers put them 31-13 with 6:58 left in the second quarter.
Tierra Snipes banked a layup to cut the scoring drought for the Gators. Trailing by double-digits throughout the majority of the second quarter,
Taimane Lesa-Hardee shot a half court three to cut the deficit to 42-25 going into the locker room.
Gators hung around in the third and fourth quarter and came close to cutting the deficit to single digits. The Gators lost key players to fouls as Snipes fouled out in the third quarter and Velazquez fouled out in the fourth.
