How it Happened

The Gators stumbled out of the gate and fell behind early, trailing 22-8 after one quarter. Chico shot 50.0 percent from the field and made five of six free throws in the first. The Gators shot 25.0 percent. SF State was able to cut the lead to eight near the end of the second quarter from a pull-up jumper by Taimane Lesa-Hardee but a foul on the ensuing possession made it a double-digit lead again going into halftime.

After a 7-0 Chico run put the Wildcats up 42-25, the Gators were on the board in the third with a pair of made free throws by Blake. The Gators would not score a basket until 4:36 remaining in the third to cut the deficit to 20 points. Blake, who had 12 points in the fourth quarter, tried to get the Gators back in the game but the deficit was too much to overcome.
