SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State women's basketball team fell to the Chico State Wildcats 74-59.
Mya Blake had a career high 27-points but the Gators were never able to overcome an early deficit.
- Gators fall to 7-11 on the season and 3-9 in the CCAA. The Wildcats improve to 12-6 and 8-4 in the CCAA
- Blake's 27 points ties for fifth most in a single game. It marks her fifth 20+ game of the season.
- Chico went 22-for-27 at the line while the Gators were 8-for-14.
- Four Chico players reached double-digits with Jordan Morris leading the way with 17 points.
- Prior to the start of the game, the Gators had a moment of silence for Hamzah Alsaudi, who has been missing since a swimming accident in Pacifica on Thursday, January 19
The Gators stumbled out of the gate and fell behind early, trailing 22-8 after one quarter. Chico shot 50.0 percent from the field and made five of six free throws in the first. The Gators shot 25.0 percent. SF State was able to cut the lead to eight near the end of the second quarter from a pull-up jumper by
Taimane Lesa-Hardee but a foul on the ensuing possession made it a double-digit lead again going into halftime.
After a 7-0 Chico run put the Wildcats up 42-25, the Gators were on the board in the third with a pair of made free throws by Blake. The Gators would not score a basket until 4:36 remaining in the third to cut the deficit to 20 points. Blake, who had 12 points in the fourth quarter, tried to get the Gators back in the game but the deficit was too much to overcome.
