SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco State women's basketball team fell to the Sonoma State Seawolves 49-40 at Main Gym Thursday evening. The offensive never seemed to get going as the Gators fell behind after leading by a slim margin throughout the first three quarters.
- Gators fall to 6-7 on the season and 2-5 in the CCAA while the Seawolves improve to 7-6 and 4-3 in the CCAA.
- Mya Blake was the only Gator to reach double figures, scoring ten points.
- While the Seawolves went .286 percent from the field, they shot .538 percent from three.
- Brilonnie Bell had a career high three blocks.
- The 40 points is the lowest point total by the Gators this season.
The Gators led by as many as five points in the first quarter of the game before Sonoma State tied things up 8-8 with 2:41 remaining. A jumper from
Samaria Velazquez put the Gators back on top going into the second frame.
Talia Garner's jumper to go up 20-12 gave the Gators their biggest lead of the game. The Seawolves came back within one possession but good defense from the Gators helped maintain the lead going into the locker room for halftime.
The tide changed near the end of the third quarter when a jumper from the Seawolves put them within a possession and Jayme Blackard's buzzer beater three put Sonoma up 33-32 at the end of the third.
Muirae Gomez's shot in the paint put the Gators back on top to open the quarter but the lead did not hold for long. The Gators could not make shots to regain the lead and Somona went 5-for-6 from the charity stripe to maintain the lead.
