SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State women's soccer team got goals from a pair of freshmen for a 2-1 win over Cal State East Bay on Thursday at home at Cox Stadium.
- The Gators improve to 3-7-2 and 2-2-1 in CCAA action. The Gators entered the day in a five-way tie for sixth place and, as of the win, take sole possession of that spot. The Pioneers slip to 3-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in CCAA play.
- Freshmen Cheyenne Dohan and Renee Davis both collected their first career goals in Thursday's victory.
- CSUEB outshot SF State 12-7, including 7-5 on goal.
- The Pioneers also held a slight 2-1 corner kick advantage.
The first half was fairly quiet with the Gators' best opportunity coming in the 35th minute. With Pioneers goalkeeper Jordan Smith charging out, Michelle Pham had a look at an open net but her shot from near the top of the box hit off the crossbar. SF State broke the seal in the 68th minute when Samantha Shim played a perfect ball ahead to Cheyenne Dohan. Dohan, who had subbed in just moments earlier, got it past the goalkeeper's head for the early lead.

SF State nearly added a late goal when
Alexa Avelar had a shot in the box saved and her putback sailed wide with just over a minute remaining.
Kylie Tone made seven saves and picked up her first win of the season. Smith made three saves in the loss for the Pioneers.
