SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State women's soccer team had a gritty performance but had no points to show for it in an eventual 2-1 loss to first-place Cal Poly Pomona on Friday at Cox Stadium.
- The Gators saw their playoff hopes narrow as they slip to to 3-9-2 and 2-4-1 (7 points) in CCAA action. At 8-2-3 overall and 6-0-1 in CCAA action, the Broncos are one of three CCAA teams unbeaten in conference play and are atop the standings with 19 points, four more than second-place Cal State San Marcos.
- Brynn Reyes scored the Gators' goal, the third of her career and the first of this season.
- CPP outshot the Gators 12-2, including 6-1 shots on goal.
- SF State's goal against the Broncos snapped a 251-minute scoreless streak.
- Both teams attempted a pair of corner kicks with the Gators capitalizing on their second.
The Broncos threatened in the 26th minute when Auburn Burnett's shot slammed off the crossbar. Less than ten minutes later, CPP took the early advantage in the 38th minute. Mikaela Marr played a nearly 25-yard ball over the Gators back line, then Alexis Macias settled the ball and chipped it over Gators goalkeeper Kylie Tone, who came too far out and was forced to watch the ball bounce across the goal line.
SF State trailed 1-0 at the half but grabbed the momentum in the 68th minute. SF State worked a corner kick on the right side and senior Alyna Flores placed a perfect ball into the box, where fellow senior Reyes connected on a header from six yards out.
The Broncos dashed the Gators' hopes of at least a point in the 81st minute. Burnett passed down the right side to forward Tara Ope. The midfielder beat Tone, who again charged out but was unable to make the stop.
Tone made four saves but allowed both Broncos goals. Bella Hara earned the win without a save despite giving up the Reyes goal.
