SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State women's soccer team netted a first-half goal but two second half goals spoiled Senior Day in a 2-1 loss to Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday at Cox Stadium.
- Prior to the match, seniors Alexa Avelar, Carissa Capinpin, Alyna Flores, Catherine Flores, Emily Fraye, and Haley Molinari were honored for their dedication to the program.
- SF State falls to to 3-10-2 and 2-5-1 (7 points) in CCAA action. With three contests remaining, SF State will need to win at least two to stay in the playoff hunt, as well as get help elsewhere. CSUSB moves to 7-5-3 and is tied for third place with 14 points (4-2-2).
- Freshman Michelle Pham netted the Gators' lone goal, the first of her career. Ten different Gators have scored a goal in 2023.
- CSUSB outshot SF State 12-6, including 6-4 on goal.
- The Coytoes also kept the pressure on with a 7-1 corner kick advantage.
San Francisco State took an early advantage with a goal twenty four minutes into the match. Alyna Flores beat a pair of Coyotes defenders on the right side, then crossed the ball to Pham, who found the back of the net.
The lead held until the 69th minute when Kaylen Gonzalez worked her way through the Gator defense and dished to Nathaly Losada Lucumi, who scored her CCAA-leading eighth goal to knot things at 1-1. The Coyotes took the lead for good less than ten minutes later. In the 78th minute, Gonzalez took the ball herself and won a 1v1 opportunity versus
Kylie Tone.
Tone made three saves in the first half but only made one in the second half, and allowed both Coytoes goals. CSUSB goalkeeper Leila Peregrina picked up the win with three saves and one goal allowed.
