SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State women's soccer played to a 2-2 draw versus Sonoma State on Sunday in CCAA play.
- The Gators move to 2-7-2 and 1-2-1 in CCAA action. The Seawolves are now at 2-5-3 and 0-3-1 in CCAA action.
- SF State held a 14-8 shot advantage, including 8-4 shots on goal.
- Sonoma State held a 7-5 corner kick advantage.
In the 10th minute, Grace Messenger had a 1v1 opportunity but had her shot saved. She settled the rebound but her second try went high. A minute later, Messenger had another chance but was fouled in the box by goalkeeper Lolo Retsky. Visibly shaken up, Messenger was forced to leave. Alexa Avelar stepped up for the penalty kick and although Retsky got a hand on it, the ball found the back of the net for a 1-0 Gators lead.
Sonoma State tied the match in the 19th minute with Malia Falk's first goal of the season. Julia Betti's shot was blocked and the Gators were unsuccessful in clearing the ball, which allowed Falk to poke the ball into the lower left for the score. The Seawolves took the lead in the 30th minute when SSU played a ball into the box that Renee Ketner settled and scored from point-blank range to the left side.
Crisp passing off of a throw-in led to the Gators' second goal of the day. Molinari took the throw-in to
Samantha Shim, who passed back to Molinari. Molinari passed the ball into the center of the field to
Carissa Capinpin, who dumped off to
Renee Davis. Davis passed back to
Rachel Handy, who fed Lauren Johnsont at the top left of the box. Medin took two touches and finished to the lower right.
The Gators had a couple of shots on goal in the second half and the Seawolves had one as the two teams played to a 2-2 draw.
Cameryn Nunn allowed both Seawolves goals in the first half. Bella Miseroy made one save for the Gators in a scoreless second half. Retsky made six saves for the Seawolves and allowed both Gators goals.
SF State closes out the three-game homestand on Thursday, October 12 at 12:30 p.m. versus Cal State East Bay.
