SEASIDE, Calif. — The San Francisco State women's basketball team fell to Dominican 80-54 Friday evening at the Kelp Bed.
- The Gators sit at 0-2 while Dominican improves to 2-1. Dominican was selected to finish third in the PacWest.
- The starting line-up consisted of Alexsandra Alvarado, Kali Myers, Samaria Velazquez, Imani Felix and Sage Bridges-Bey. Bridges-Bey made her first start in a Gator uniform.
- For a second straight game, Alvarado led the Gators with 16 points.
- The Gators shot 34.5 percent from the field but turned the ball over 22 times. 24 of Dominicans points came off turnovers. The Penguins shot 47.7 percent and 66.7 from three.
- SF State stayed fairly even with Monterey Bay on the boards, edged 37-39.
The Penguins opened the game with a 12-2 lead. A jumper from
Kierra Johnson made it a one-possession game trailing 17-15 with 2:12 remaining in the first. The Penguins closed out the final two minutes on a 8-0 scoring run and finished the quarter shooting 62.5 from the field.
A three-point basket from Alvarado cut the Penguins lead to 29-23 in the second but would never get closer than that. The Gators committed seven turnovers in the quarter while Dominican only had two. Down 44-30 going into the third, the Penguins extended their lead to 20 before the Gators scored their first basket. The Penguins kept their double-digit lead throughout the rest of the third and fourth quarter.
