How it Happened

SF State led in the first couple of minutes but played from behind the rest of the night. Tied 14-14, the Lancers went on a 6-0 run and the Gators went down 20-14. The deficit grew to 25-17 before the Gators cut it to four before the eight-minute media timeout. With under two minutes to go in the half, Bellamy found Roth for a three-pointer, then Bellamy grabbed a rebound and scored at the other end to make it a one-point game, 32-31 with 1:15 to go. The Gators had a chance to take the lead on the final possession of the half but a Bellamy three attempt was off target.

After growing its lead to 51-39 just ahead of the 12-minute mark in the second half, CBU eventually built its lead to as large as 22. Both teams made nine free throws in the first half but the gap grew in the second half. CBU used its size and athleticism to grab 16 offensive rebounds and the Lancers got to the line 17 times in the second half, compared to just four for the Gators.
