TURLOCK, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's basketball team remains in search of its first CCAA win after dropping a heartbreaker, 70-65, at Stanislaus State on Saturday afternoon inside Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
- SF State falls to 4-4 and to 0-2 in CCAA action while the Warriors even their record at 4-4 and move to 1-1 in CCAA action.
- John Bakke led the Gators with his second 14-point performance in as many games. Tyjean Burrell and Donovan Cooks each scored a dozen points in the loss, Jailen Daniel-Dalton and Devon Jackson both finished with eight points, and Caleb Oden finished with sevent points.
- Jailen Daniel-Dalton led SF State with 10 rebounds, as the Gators held a slight 35-33 rebounding advantage.
- Daniel Ameyaw led all players with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting for the Warriors. John Wade III and Dontrell Hewlett both chipped in 14 points apiece.
- Stan State outshot the Gators 45.6 percent (26-of-57) to 41.7 percent (20-of-48). Stan State also outshot the Gators from deep, 34.8 percent (8-of-23) to 30.4 percent (7-of-23).
SF State led 6-4 early but the Warriors responded with an 11-0 run over nearly three minutes. The deficit grew to double digits but SF State answered with a 10-0 run of its own that tied the game at 18-18. Bakke made a pair of free throws to put SF State up two, 29-27, but Baljot Sahi buried his only bucket of the game, a three-pointer that put the Warriors up one, and the deficit eventually grew to five by halftime.
The Gators played even in the second half and even grabbed the lead late, 63-61 with 3:23 to go, on a Cooks three-pointer. The Gators led again at 2:39 thanks to a pair of Oden free throws but that's the last time the Gators would score. Ameyaw tied it at 65-65 with a jumper, Jonathan Tchengang gave Stan State the lead for good with a bucket at 1:08, and William Chavrin put things out of reach with a three-pointer with 15 seconds remaining.
The Gators head to Southern California this coming week. They'll take on Cal Poly Pomona (2-4/1-1 CCAA) on Thursday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. and No. 4 Cal State San Bernardino (5-0/1-0 CCAA) on Saturday, December 9 at 3 p.m. Live stats will be available at sfstategators.com with updates also available on X at @sfstate_mbb, and fans can stream the game live on the CCAA Network.
