SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.— The San Francisco State women's basketball team closed out its road trip at Cal State San Bernardino with a 72-57 loss to the Yotes at Coussoulis Arena. The Gators remained close through two quarters but a big third quarter gave the Yotes enough of a cushion going into the final frame.
- The Gators fall to 2-5 and 1-3 in conference play. Cal State San Bernardino improves to 4-4 and 2-2 in the conference.
- Alexsandra Alvarado was the only Gator to reach double-digit figures in points. She led the team with 15 points with nine coming from the line. Alvarado also had team highs in assists (five) and steals (four).
- Kierra Johnson had a team-high two blocks.
- The Yotes held the advantage in rebounds 38-26.
- The Gators had 21 turnovers on the day with the Yotes scoring 30 points off turnovers.
The Gators had one of their best offensive outputs of the season in the first quarter, shooting 80.0 percent from the field. Briolonnie Bell's lay-up with 2:08 left in the first put the Gators up 19-12. The Yotes came back within one during the first thanks to some turnovers that led to points by San Bernardino. The Yotes scoring run continued into the second quarter as they took a 22-19 lead with 8:50 remaining. The two teams traded leads throughout the quarter as the Gators trailed 33-29 going into halftime.
After a lay-up from
Talia Garner got the Gators back within two, a 13-0 scoring run gave the Yotes a 15-point lead midway through the quarter. Back-to-back three by the Yotes in the fourth frame gave them a 64-43 lead with 6:39 remaining.
