By the Numbers

  • The Gators (12-12/8-10 CCAA) remain in a tie for fifth place but are now tied with Chico State and Cal State LA, and could end up in a four-way tie depending on the outcome of the Cal State Monterey Bay at Cal Poly Pomona game later tonight.
  • Three Gators scored in double digits. Eche Okeke and CJ Bellamy each scored a team-high 12 points while Toby Okwuokei added 11 points in the loss. Okeke added four rebounds and five assists.
  • The Coyotes were without their leading scorer, Brandon Knapper, who was serving a one-game suspension but his teammates stepped up. The team's second leading scorer, Dontrell Shuler, led all players with 24 points. Darius Mickens scored a season-high 20 points, Eddie Davis scored 16, and Elijah Hardy finished with 11 points.
  • SF State shot 35.5 percent (22-of-62), including 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from deep but the CSUSB offense was unstoppable. The Coyotes shot 57.1 percent (40-of-70) and were 20-of-35 in each half. They were even better from deep, where they shot 57.9 percent (11-of-19).

How it Happened

The Coyotes jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes and the Gators never recovered. SF State pulled to within five inside the 15-minute mark on an Okeke jumper but CSUSB pushed its lead back to double digits by the 13-minute mark. The deficit grew to 20, though SF State pulled to within 49-33 at the half thanks to a Roth layup and a Caleb Oden steal and fastbreak layup. Any chance of a Gators comeback was thwarted when the Coyotes scored the first five points of the second half and quickly built their lead to 25 over the first three minutes of the half.
