IRVINE, Calif. — The San Francisco State Softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to No. 19 Concordia on Sunday at Eagles Field. The Gators fell 8-0 in six innings and 1-0 in the nightcap.
- The Gators slip to 5-4 with the doubleheader loss. The Golden Eagles improve to 10-2 after dropping a Saturday doubleheader to Colorado Christian.
- Kai DeLeon had a hit in each game, which extended her hitting streak to 19 consecutive games. She's hitting a team-best .400.
- Liana Gonzalez went 2-for-2 at the plate in game one.
- Mia Misasi recorded a hit in game one, breaking an 0-for-16 start to the season.
Game 1
- CUI took a lead in the second inning when Shelby Pfeiler launched a home run to left field.
- Heffernan worked out of a jam in the third. Massa doubled but only ended up at third on a Mary Baccay double. The Gators got a break when they got the duo in a rundown and got Baccay out for the second out. Daniella Guerrera tracked down a fly ball in shallow right to get Heffernan out of the jam.
- However, the Golden Eagles added on in the fifth on a Ryle Rohr homer to center field and added another insurance run when Megan Johnson doubled and later scored.
- SF State threatened in the sixth. Misasi singled, followed by a DeLeon bunt single. Nilson loaded the bases with another bunt single with one out but SF State left the bases loaded.
- CUI put the game away in the sixth. A Sprinkle leadoff walk eventually led to a run and a wild pitch led to another. A Rohr RBI double made it 6-0 and forced Heffernan back into the circle. She hit Johnson with a pitch and she and Rohr both scored on a Pfeiler walk-off single down the right field line.
- Brooklyn Heffernan left after five innings and allowed three runs on five hits, which were all for extra bases. The freshman struck out two and walked a pair. She gave up one more hit in relief and allowed one more earned run.
- Taylor Kelly entered for a third of an inning but gave up four earned runs.
- Kaitlin Entrup (5-1) struck out nine and walked just one. She scattered five hits in the complete game victory.
Game 2
- In game two, CUI took the lead in the bottom of the third on on Baccay's RBI single up the middle.
- SF State threatened twice late. In the sixth, Misasi reached on an error but was later thrown out trying to second to home on Marley Gonzales' infield single. Maddie Scott and
- Gonzales moved to second and third on a wild pitch but Kira Nilson struck out swinging to end the inning. In the seventh, Marisa Jordan tripled and tried to score on a Jade Johnson flyout to right field but was thrown out at home to end the game.
- Kaitlyn Maddux (3-1) took the tough-luck loss in another complete-game effort. She gave up four hits, struck out four, and walked three.
- Three Golden Eagles combined for the shutout and each allowed just one hit. Starter Courtney Koelmans (1-0) picked up the win with four strikeouts in five innings. Daniela Alvarez struck out two and walked one in a scoreless inning, and Callie Nunes picked up her first save with a scoreless inning.
The Gators host their home opener on Friday, February 17 when the Gators open CCAA action with a noon doubleheader versus Sonoma State. The teams meet again on Saturday, February 18 and the first 100 fans at Saturday's doubleheader will receive a free SF State Athletics T-Shirt. The series will be broadcast on the
