SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team took both ends of a twin bill with Colorado State University, Pueblo. In game one, the pitching staffs of both teams put together another strong performance. With bases loaded and the game tied 1-1 in the ninth, Gavin Haimovitz put the ball in play to allow Michael Cunningham to score the winning run. The Gators finished the day with a 7-3 victory in the second half of the doubleheader.
- The Gators improve to 6-1 while CSU Pueblo sits at 0-6. The wins today guarantees the Gators a series victory. This also marks the first time since 2019 the Gators recorded back-to-back series wins.
- SF State had a series high 12 hits in game two.
- Kody Gardner, Cole Thompson, Andrew Silva and Christian Smith all had a double on the day while Gavin Haimovitz had a key triple in game one of the day.
- Defensively, the Gators had three put-outs, one caught stealing and only recorded one error between the two games.
- Thompson had a pair of steals in game two.
Game 1
A walk got the Thunderwolves' lead-off batter on base to open the game. Reggie Williams made it to third and a one-out groundout allowed him to score. Pueblo had another opportunity to score in the top of the sixth with bases loaded and two outs, but
Gary Grosjean induced a pop fly to right to shut the door.
In the bottom of the seventh, Gardner hit a two out double to center and Haimovitz brought him home with a triple to right field. Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Cunningham drew a one-out hit by pitch and a single from
Nick Upstill sent Cunningham to third. Gardner was intentionally walked to load the bases and create a double-play opportunity to end the inning. Haimovitz put the ball in play but the shortstop only got the out at first allowing the winning run to score.
- Gary Grosjean pitched seven innings, throwing six strikeouts with five hits, one walk and no earned runs.
- Ethan Remmers pitched an inning in relief and threw a strikeout. Andrew Silva pitched in the ninth and was credited with the win. He threw a strikeout in his inning of relief.
- Tyler Curtis, who pitched for 8.2 innings, drew the loss.
Game 2
After a sac fly to start the game got the Thunderwolves on the board first, the Gators put up a three-spot in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead. Thompson started things off with a lead-off double and
Daniel Santos drove him home on the next at bat. After a single by
Justin Clark advanced Santos to third, a sac fly plated Santos at home. With Clark on third and two outs,
Matt Sugden singled to short to give the Gators their third run of the inning.
With a pair of runners on first in second with two outs at the top of the fourth, The Thunderwovles' Kysen Howard singled to allow one runner to score but got a little greedy trying to make it to second and was tagged out by the Gators. The Gators took control of the game in the bottom of the fifth, plating four runners at home to go up 7-2. Smith got things started with a to center to score the first run of the inning. Gardner hit a 2 RBI single with bases loaded. On the following at-bat, Sugden singled to center to give the Gators their fourth run of the game. The Thunderwolves added one more run in the bottom of the seventh but could not complete the comeback.
- Tyler Franks threw for five solid innings to earn his first win of the season. Hee threw four strikeouts while allowing four hits, two runs and two walks.
- Brody Eglite threw for two innings in relief and tossed four K's while giving up a run.
- Owen Rudolphi, who was given the hook after 0.1 innings, was credited with the loss.
