SAN FRANCISCO — Nathan Shinn put together one of the best starts of his young career to propel the San Francisco State baseball team to a 6-3 victory over Colorado State University, Pueblo to complete the series sweep.
- The Gators improve to 7-1 while CSU Pueblo sits at 0-7. The Gators previously started 7-1 during the 2020 season that was shortened due to Covid. This also marks the first sweep of an opponent since that season as well.
- Nick Upstill and Derek Laferierre both went 3-for-4 at the plate with Upstill hitting his second triple of the season.
- Devin Williams made his first career start and hit a double at his first at bat.
- Daniel Santos and Kody Gardner also hit doubles.
- SF State earned five free bases from three walks and two hit by pitches.
A lead-off double from Santos in the bottom of the fourth got him in scoring position. Laferierre hit a single to right field to bring Santos home and advance
Michael Cunningham to third. A wild pitch allowed Cunningham to score and give the Gators a 2-0 lead.
The Gators scored again in the sixth, seventh and eighth inning. A single to right center from
AJ Schrader plated Gardner to increase the lead to three. Upstill tripled to plate Gonzales in the seventh and Gardner would bring Upstill home with a single to center field. With runners on first and second in the bottom of the eighth, Upstill added an insurance run with an RBI single to center.
A three-run home run cut the Gator's lead in half with no outs in the top of the ninth.
Gabrial Lopez came on the mound in relief and allowed a walk to the first batter faced but retired the next three to end the game.
- Nathan Shinn went a career high seven scoreless innings and threw for a career high eight strikeouts. He only gave up three hits during his stint on the mound to improve his record to 2-0.
- Mickey Radanovich, Maxx Castellucci and Gabrial Lopez all saw time in relief. Radanovich and Lopez both tossed a K and Lopez earned a save coming in with a three-run lead.
- Cole Martin had the start for the ThunderWolves and drew the loss.
