By the Numbers

  • The Gators sit at 11-7 and 4-6 in the CCAA. The Yotes sit at 18-4 and 9-3 in the CCAA. With a win today, the Gators are guaranteed a split with a top ten team for the first time since doing so against UC San Diego in 2018.
  • SF State is also the first team this season to split with San Bernardino as the Yotes have won every series this season.
  • Andrew Silva hit his first career home run in game two.
  • The Yotes had four errors across the two games while the Gators only had one.
  • The Gators had 24 hits between the two games with eight of them going for extra bases.

How It Happened

In the top of the second with one out, AJ Schrader put the ball in play to allow Michael Cunningham to score. The Yotes equalized in the bottom of the inning off an RBI single up the middle. A sac fly in the bottom of the third put the Yotes on top for the first time during the game.

Back-to-back homers from Cunningham and Matt Sugden in the top of the fourth made it a 4-2 ballgame. An error by Schrader proved costly for the Gators as the Yotes' offense got hot and scored nine runs during the bottom of the fifth, eight of which were unearned.

The Gators scored three runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 11-7. The Yotes would add one more run in the seventh before both teams were silenced during the next one and a half innings.

How It Happened

Santos hit a two-run moonshot to left field open game two. Silva followed up in the second inning with a two-run homer of his own to increase the lead to four. With bases loaded, Santos picked up his third RBI of the game, hitting into a fielder's choice to bring Cole Thompson home.

With runners on second and third and one out in the top of the fourth, Upstill sliced the ball down the right field line to add another pair of runs and chase San Bernardino's pitcher out of the game up 7-0.

The Yotes got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run. The Gators responded in the fifth with another pair of runs. Antonio Nanez pinch hit in the sixth and hit an rbi single to increase the lead to 10-1. The Yotes would hit another solo homerun but were unable to make up the deficit.
