SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team fell 6-3 in the series finale with Cal State Dominguez Hills Sunday afternoon at Maloney Field, splitting the series. The Toros took a 6-1 lead through three innings and while the Gators held the Toros from scoring more runs, they were unable to make the comeback.
- The Gators fall to 13-10 and 6-9 in the CCAA. The Toros improve to 13-10 and 8-5 in the CCAA.
- A pair of homers from the Toros proved to be the difference maker as the Toros score three runs off the homers.
- Daniel Santos went 3-for-5 from the plate. Derek Laferierre was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
- The Gator batters recorded a season high nine strikeouts against the Toros' pitching staff.
After the Toros put up a four spot in the top of the second, the Gators got on the board when
Derek Laferierre doubled and
Gavin Haimovitz was able to reach home thanks to a throwing error from the right fielder. A two-run home run in the top of the third put the Toros up 6-1.
With bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Laferierre hit a single down the right field line to score a run.
Sammy Gonzales hit a sac fly to bring the deficit back to three.
Jordyn Eglite faced the minimum in the fourth through sixth innings, including striking out the side in the fifth.
Gabrial Lopez and
Andrew Silva held the Toros the rest of the way but the Gators only were able to get a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth.
- Jordyn Eglite started and went six innings. He gave up seven hits, six runs and a walk in the first three innings but only one hit and tossed four strikeouts in the last three. He falls to 1-2 on the season
- Gabrial Lopez and Andrew Silva combinded for three innings in relief to hold the Toros scoreless.
- Nathan Ortiz earned the win to improve his record to 3-0 while Dane Baker earned his second save of the season.
