LOS ANGELES - The San Francisco State baseball team split day two with Cal State Los Angeles, dropping game one 6-4 but rebounding with a big 14-3 victory in game two at Reeder Field Saturday afternoon.
- The Gators sit at 15-11 and 8-10 in the CCAA. The Golden Eagles sit at 11-14 and 6-10 in conference.
- AJ Schrader, Kody Gardner and Christian Smith all homered with Smith recording his first career home run.
- SF State had six doubles on the day with Gavin Haimovitz hitting one in each game.
- Ten different Gators recorded a hit in game two.
Game One
The Golden Eagles hit a two-run homer to open the game. After a pair of runs scored in the bottom of the fifth with two-outs, the Golden Eagles proceeded to load the bases.
Gabrial Lopez stepped on the mound and got the Gators out of the pickle.
Cunningham drew a walk in the sixth and Schrader launched the ball to right center to make it a two score game again. Gardner hit a two-out double to cross Upstill across home plate in the seventh to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Golden Eagles scratched across runs in the seventh and eighth innings to make it a three game heading to the ninth. Down 6-3 in the ninth, Gardner blasted a two-out solo home run. Cunningham followed it up with a base hit but Schrader grounded out to second and ended the rally.
- Brody Eglite went 4.2 innings in his third start of the season and drew his first loss, falling to 2-1. He gave up seven hits, four runs and four walks while striking out six.
- Gabrial Lopez, Ethan Remmers and Andrew Silva all saw action in relief with Remmers and Silva each giving up a run.
- Julian Tellez earned the win for LA while Anthony Diaz was created with the save.
Game Two
The Gators did most of their damage in the first inning alone, putting up ten runs off six hits with two of those hits going for extra bases. SF State put 14 batters up to the plate in the first inning.
A run from Schrader in the second extended the lead to 11-0. The Gators were held off the scoreboard for the next three innings but put up a three spot in the sixth. Smith came in to pinch hit and slammed the first pitch seen out of the park. Schrader grounded out to first to allow
Andrew Silva to score and
Caleb Chance doubled to bring across the third run of inning.
Gary Grosjean held the Golden Eagles scoreless through 5.2 before giving up his first run of the game. He put up a dominate performance on the mound, matching his career high with 10 strikeouts.
- Gary Grosjean improved his record to 2-1 with the win, giving up four hits, two runs and two walks. His 10 strikeouts was the most thrown by a Gator pitcher this season.
- Jonathan Cymrot made his first apperance on the mound in relief. Jace Paderez pitched the final inning for the Gators.
- Trevor Baugh took the loss for Los Angeles.
