By the Numbers

  • SF State has won seven of its last ten games. The Gators move to 19-17 on the season and 7-13 in conference action. Cal State East Bay moves to 21-24 overall and 10-16 in CCAA play.
  • The Gators improve to 9-5 in one-run games this season.
  • Daniella Guerrera had a three-hit day. She collected a pair in game one with a home run.
  • Teya Vincent ended a seven-game drought. The Gators third baseman went 2-for-4 and drove in both Gators runs in game two.
  • Marley Gonzales had a pair of stolen bases in game one and shares the team lead with 11 on the season.
  • Both Gators pitchers tossed complete games bringing the team's season total to 22 complete games. Kaitlyn Maddux has 12 while Brooklyn Heffernan has 10.
  • Both teams had opportunities in game two. The Pioneers left 11 runners on base and the Gators stranded 10.

How They Scored

  • The Gators took the lead when Daniella Guerrera connected with the second pitch she saw for a home run that banged loudly off the scoreboard in left field.
  • Adriana Martinez led off the sixth inning with a single and the Pioneers tied the game on Gabriela Rivera's RBI single up the middle.
  • SF State walked it off in the seventh inning. Guerrera reached on a fielding error at first base and Maddie Scott came in to pinch run. The speedy freshman moved up on Kira Nilson's sacrifice bunt, then scored when Marissa Jordan's single down the first base line caught chalk, then took a weird hop over first baseman Serena Cadena's glove into right field.

  • Brooklyn Heffernan (7-9) scattered one run on five hits. She needed just 83 pitches and walked two and struck out a pair.
  • Anamaria Beard (11-13) took the loss for the Pioneers. She tossed just 62 pitches but was charged with two runs, one earned, in six and a third innings. She didn't issue a walk and had one strikeout.

How They Scored

  • A sloppy first inning proved costly for the Gators in game two. The first two Pioneers reached base after Gators infielders made a throwing error, then dropped a throw. A heads up play by center fielder Gonzales led to a 1-8-2 caught stealing. Maddux got a groundout but a wild pitch and Jeslyn Cuellar single made it 1-0. A third error in the inning loaded the bases and Ysabella Cortez singled up the middle to make it 2-0.
  • SF State got a run back in the bottom of the first. Kai DeLeon drew a leadoff walk and scored on Vincent's RBI double to left center. However, Vincent was stranded at third, and SF State left two more on the base paths in the second.
  • In the fourth, the Pioneers added on with a Cynthia Carrillo two-run homer to left field. The Gators had a couple of chances in the bottom half of the inning but two baserunning gaffes foiled a chance to pull closer.
  • Maddux worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and Vincent came through with another RBI single that pulled the Gators to within 4-2. However, the Gators left two more, stranding Guerrera and Vincent on second and third.
  • SF State pieced together a two-out rally in the sixth and loaded the bases but was unable to convert. SF State had another chance in the bottom of the seventh when the tying run came to the plate but Beard got Phoebe Schultz swinging to end the game.
