TURLOCK, Calif. - The San Francisco State baseball team dropped the series opener with Stanislaus State 8-2. The Warriors took an early lead thanks to their small ball game but errors plagued the Gators in the eighth, making a comeback difficult.
- The Gators fall to 21-13 and 14-12 in the CCAA. The Warriors improve to 19-15 and 12-12 in the CCAA.
- The three hits by SF State represented a season low. The defense recorded three errors for the four time this season.
- The Gator batters struck out for a season-high 10 times.
- Both Daniel Santos and Matt Sugden hit a double.
Shinn ran into some trouble early in the first but only allowed one run off three hits. The Gators responded in the top of the second with an RBI double from
Matt Sugden deep into left center. In the bottom of the inning, Stanislaus used some small ball to advance runners into scoring position and retook the lead with a sac fly. The Gators tied it up again in the third, capitalizing on a huge error to place Gonzales on third with one out and a double from Santos to drive in Gonzales.
A wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth allowed a runner from the Warriors to score and take a 3-2 lead. They added an insurance run in the sixth and four runs in the eighth thanks to some errors from the Gators to go up 8-2.
- Nathan Shinn had a career night on the mound, going 7 innings with a career-high nine strikeouts, 10 hits and four runs.
- Justice Naraghi and Jonathan Cymrot pitched in relief for the Gators.
- Tony Jacob earned the win for Stanislaus.
