TURLOCK, Calif. — The San Francisco State softball team won its final game at the Tournament of Champions presented by the City of Turlock, 3-1, over Saint Martin's as the Gators finished the tournament 5-0.
- SF State has won seven of its last eight and improves to 16-14 on the season. SMU falls to 17-9 on the season.
- The Gators have gone 5-0 versus GNAC opponents this season.
- Kai DeLeon went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. For the tournament, she hit .643 (9-for-14) and brought her team-leading average to .411.
- Mia Misasi had a home run and was the only Gator to record a hit in all five games of the tournament, going .357 (5-for-14).
- Kira Nilson went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
- Daniella Guerrera went 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base.
- Kaitlyn Maddux threw her team-leading ninth complete game and lowered her ERA to 2.30. She also struck out 10, which is a career-high for the righty. Maddux was dominant this weekend with three wins, a 1.33 ERA, and 18 strikeouts.
- DeLeon and Maddux were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
- In the second inning, Britney Patrick doubled and got to third on a fielding error, then scored on Vanessa Smoke's RBI single to center field to give SMU an early 1-0 lead.
- The Gators grabbed the lead in the top of the third inning. DeLeon led off with a single, then Marley Gonzales reached on a fielding error. Kira Nilson hit a two-out, two-run single through the right side that made it 2-1.
- Misasi added an insurance run in the fourth with a two-out, full-count solo shot to left field.
- Maddux (8-5) tossed 104 pitches and scattered seven hits without allowing an earned run. She fanned 10 and walked just one.
- Tia Ridings (9-3) allowed two runs on four hits in three innings of work for the Saints. She struck out four and walked two.
- Abby Runyon allowed a run in an inning of relief and Chloe Leverington struck out six in three perfect innings.
The Gators next head to Cal State Monterey Bay for a pair of doubleheaders on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8. The four-game series will be broadcast on the
