MSOC | Gators Hold on For Tie In Home Opener

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State men's soccer team opened up home action at Cox Stadium Friday afternoon with a 0-0 draw against Westminster. The Griffins had 12 corner kicks on the day but the Gators stood strong and kept them off the board.

  • The Gators record stands at 1-2-1 while Westminster sits 2-1-2.
  • SF State only had two corner kicks.
  • Julio Gonzalez Ponce and Pedro Zorraquin each had two shots. Ponce had one shot on goal.
  • The Griffins were selected to finish sixth in the RMAC this season. The Gators have not lost to the Griffins, defeating them 3-0 in their other meeting in 2021.

How It Happened

The Griffins had several opportunities to score with 10 corner kicks through the first 55 minutes of the game. The Gators had their best opportunity for a goal in the 60th minute when Julio Gonzalez Ponce took a cross in the middle of the box but the shot was blocked by the keeper.

Mario De La Torre (1-1-1) earned his first clean sheet. The junior finished with four saves on the day. Roark Looney had three for the Griffins.
