FRESNO, Calif. — The San Francisco State women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Fresno Pacific at Ramirez Field.
- The Gators now sit at 1-5. Fresno Pacific falls to 1-6
- Carissa Capinpin, Samantha Shim and Alexa Avelar all scored goals for the Gators. Shim's goal was the game winner, marking her first career game winning goal.
- Cheyenne Dohan recorded her first career assist.
- While the Sunbirds outshot the Gators 13-8, both teams had five shots on goal.
- Fouls were fairly even (Gators had the edge 8-7) and the Sunbirds drew one yellow card.
The Sunbirds' Nadia Flores shot the ball near the top of the goal in the 18th minute but a spectacular leaping save by Miseroy sent the ball out of bonds. The ensuing corner kick led to a foul on FPU. Dohan settled a bouncing ball and found Capinpin in the box in the 20th minute. She fired the ball in the left corner to put the Gators on top.
Fresno Pacific equalized in the 49th minute with a goal from Diana Garcia. The Gators would go back on top with a goal from Shim shot outside the box in the 67th minute. They would get an insurance goal in the 82nd minute when Avelar scored on a penalty kick.
Bella Miseroy (1-0) earned the win in her first start in the net. The third keeper to start for the Gators, Miseroy made four saves on the day. Monique Neverez made one save in the loss for Fresno Pacific.
