Leading set one 13-11, Point Loma used a 9-1 run to bring momentum back to them. A service error gave the ball back to the Gators and a block, ace and a kill brought them within two at 20-18. That proved to be the last point from the Gators in that set as Point Loma rattled off five straight.
Back-to-back blocks from Rebecca Rendahl highlighted a 5-0 run that put the Gators up 14-8 in set two. The Gators had their best hitting percentage of the match in the set, hitting .300.
After a slow start, the Gators came back within one to trail 8-7 in the third set. A service error followed by a pair of blocks sparked a 10-3 run for the Sea Lions that the Gators would not recover from.
A pair of kills from Goodrich gave the Gators a 14-10 advantage in set four but a 5-0 run put Point Loma back in front. The two teams stayed no more than two points ahead of each other the rest of the way. Down 23-21, a kill from Goodrich gave the Gators the serve back but the Sea Lions hit back-to-back kills to end the match.
