SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State women's basketball team struggled to score in the first quarter and could not overcome the early deficit, resulting in a 68-51 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills at Main Gym.
- The Gators fall to 3-10 and 2-6 in conference action. The Toros improve to 6-8 and 3-5 in the conference.
- Freshman Nyana Asiasi made her first career start. Despite missing most the of the first half due to foul trouble, Asiasi finished with nine points off of three three-point baskets.
- The Gators turned the ball over a season-low seven times while Dominguez Hills had 19.
- The Toros had nearly double the number of rebounds as the Gators, grabbing 54 compared to their 29.
In a sluggish first quarter, the Toros took a multi-possession lead off a three to go up 5-1 with 5:24 left in the quarter. It sparked a 10-0 that gave them a 12-1 lead with one minute to go.
Kali Myers' jumper finally broke the drought. Down 12-5 after one quarter, the Gators were still in it thanks to six turnovers by the Toros.
Alvarado scored the Gator's first three-point basket of the game to cut the lead to 20-16 but chances at the line helped the Toros go back up 25-16.
A lay-up from the Toros in the final seconds of the second quarter gave them a double-digit lead at 32-21.
The Gator's offense found it's rhythm in the third but the Toros continued to make shots as both teams shot above 40 percent in the quarter. Both teams scored 19 points for the Gators to stay trailing by 11. Alvarado's three cut the lead to 51-44 with 8:28 left in the game. It would be the closest the Gators would get to the lead the rest of the quarter as Dominguez Hills went on a 9-0 run and never dropped below a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
