SAN MARCOS — The San Francisco State women's basketball fell to conference leaders RV Cal State San Marcos 89-75 at the Sports Center Thursday afternoon. The Gators stayed within five points the first three quarters, but fouls piled up in the fourth and the Cougars went 18-for-22 from the line while shooting 71.4 percent from the field.
- The Gators fall to 3-12 and 2-8 in conference action. The Cougars improve to 12-9 and 9-1 in the CCAA
- Sage Bridges-Bey had a team-high 20 points, followed by Alexsandra Alvarado with 14 and Samaria Velazquez with 11.
- The Gators had 25 personal fouls, two shy of their season high.
- The 10 three-point baskets were a season-high with Bridges-Bey going 4-for-6 from beyond the line.
- SF State recorded a season low 18 rebounds. The Cougars doubled that with 36.
A couple of trips to the line helped San Marcos take an early 6-0 lead. After a couple quiet minutes offensively, the Gators found their footing.
Kierra Johnson's layup brought the Gators within one and
Sage Bridges-Bey's jump shot gave the Gators their first lead of the evening at 13-12 with 2:27 remaining in the first. The teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter as the Gators took a 20-17 lead into the second quarter.
Kali Myers mid-range jumper finally broke the scoring drought in the second quarter and increased the lead to 22-17 with 8:10 remaining. The Gators would lead by as much as six but could never shake the Cougars. San Marcos' Charity Gallegos tied the game with a three at 30-30 and 3:50 remaining. The Gators looked to go into the locker with a tie but a last second three gave the Cougars a 42-39 lead.
Bridges-Bey banked a three to tie the game back up. The game remained close throughout the third quarter with both teams shooting above 50 percent from the field. The Gators led 60-56 with 1:52 remaining but an 16-0 run from the Cougars put them back in front for good. Fouls plagued the Gators in the fourth, with the Cougars in the bonus a minute and twenty seconds into the quarter.
