SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State women's basketball team used a 13-2 run to erase a deficit in the fourth and got enough done at the line to win 54-51 over Cal State Monterey Bay at Main Gym.
- SF State improve to 5-13 overall and 4-9 in CCAA action. The Otters fall to 3-15 and 1-12 in the conference. The Gators are riding a five-game win streak against the Otters.
- Alexsandra Alvarado led all players with 21 points, making it her sixth game with 20+ points. Sage Bridges-Bey wasn't far behind with 16.
- Samaria Velazquez and Imani Felix each had three assists.
- The Gators had 16 turnovers while the Otters finished with 25.
- SF State went 15-for-24 at the line with Alvarado finishing 10-for-12.
Monterey Bay took a 16-10 lead with 3:05 left in the first. Alvarado scored a dribbling lay-up and Bridges-Bey hooked a three to up their lead to one but a couple of made free throws gave the Otters a three-point advantage after one. Tied 23-23 in the second quarter, the Gators took their first lead of the frame with a pair of made free throws by Alvarado with 5:33 left. Neither team led by more than a possession and as Monterey Bay scored a last second three to tie it up 31-31 at halftime.
Fouls became an issue in the third and the Otters were automatic, going 10-for-10. While the Gators held them without a basket in the third, they only managed to score one of their own while adding one point from the line.
Down 41-34 at the start of the fourth, the Gators erased the deficit with a 13-2 run to take a 47-45 lead with 3:46 remaining. Monterey Bay's Kiki Roberts hit a lay-up to give the Otters a three-point lead at 51-48 with 1:50 remaining.
Kali Myers responded with a jumper to make it a one point affair and Alvarado hit a free throw to tie the game. Bridges-Bey launched a three with 14 seconds left. The shot was off but Myers was there to grab the offensive board and was immediately fouled. Myers made both shots and the Gators made a defensive stand to preserve the lead.
