SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State women's basketball team made up an early deficit in the second quarter but ultimately could not keep up with a sharp shooting Chico State team and fell 91-72 at home. The Wildcats shot 50.8 percent from the field while the Gators clipped 33.3 percent.
- The Gators fall to 3-8 and 2-4 in conference action. The Wildcats improve to 8-4 and 4-2 in conference.
- Four Gators reached double figures with Alexsandra Alvarado and Sage Bridges-Bey each scoring 19 points. Nyana Asiasi hit a new career high of 15 with all five of her baskets coming from three. Kali Myers had 10 points for the Gators.
- Bridges-Bey had the Gators' first double-double of the season with 12 rebounds.
- The Gators matched their season low in turnovers with nine.
- Brandy Huffhines of Chico State led all players with 21 points.
Chico State built a cushion early, getting opportunities to shoot at the line three times in the first five minutes of the game. Asiasi's first three of the game cut Chico's lead to 22-19 with 1:23 left in the first quarter but the Wildcats made back-to-back baskets to close the quarter and extend the lead. SF State used a 11-3 run to tie up the game in the second quarter.
After a free-throw basket basket allowed Chico to regain the lead, a driving lay-up from Myers put them up for the first time that evening. The Gators were tied 41-41 in the final minute before a last second lay-up by the Wildcats put them up heading into the timeout.
Chico State did not allow the Gators to score a basket in the first four minutes of the third and outscored them 15-3 during that stretch. The Gators came within nine of the lead at the end of the quarter but a surging Chico State offense shot 62.5 percent in the fourth to keep the Gators at bay.
