SAN FRANCISCO – A quick goal by Issay Bravo was more than enough as the San Francisco State men's soccer team defeated Cal State San Marcos 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Cox Stadium.
- The Gators improve to 1-6-5 this season, 1-2-3 in CCAA action. The Cougars fall to 4-4-5 and are 0-4-2 in conference play.
- With the win, first year head coach Sebastian Carrasco notches his first win.
- Bravo's game winner came in the fourth minute of the contest – it is the earliest goal of the year by the Gators. Besting the goal by Isaac Sandoval in the 13' minute in the 1-1 draw against Cal Poly Pomona on Oct. 4.
- The 2-0 win extends the Gators' unbeaten streak to three matches. SF State will attempt to keep the streak alive when the Gators travel to Arcata to take on Cal Poly Humboldt on Friday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m.
The Cougars tested the Gators' defense early thanks to back-to-back corner kicks in the opening two minutes of the contest.
SF State responded by going on the attack. Sandoval took the first of his three shots that was saved by Cougar's keeper Tony Flores (4-4-5) two minutes into the contest.
Following a corner by the Gators, Bravo took a pass from Adrian Vasquez and sent a show low and away past Flores for the game winner. The goal by Bravo was his fourth of the year; the assist from Vasquez was his first of the year.
Defensively, the Gators were stingy, holding the Coyotes to five shots. Frost notched a pair of saves, the first coming just before intermission.
Midway through the second half, Sandoval blasted his sixth goal of the season off the feed from Angel Sevillano.
Keeper Hayden Frost (1-1-3) notched two saves in the clean sheet. He has recorded shutouts in back-to-back starts. Flores played all 90 minutes in the loss; he notched four saves in the defeat.
The Gators return to the road next Friday when they take on Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata. Kick off is scheduled at 3 p.m. Live stats will be available at sfstategators.com and fans can stream the match live on FloCollege.
