SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to visiting Cal State San Marcos Sunday afternoon at Cox Stadium.
- The Gators fall to 3-10-0 on the year and are 0-6-0 in the CCAA. The Cougars improved to 6-3-4 overall and are 3-2-1 in conference play.
- Junior Kylie Tone tallied five saves on the day. Her performance today comes off a season-high nine saves last time out against Cal State East Bay. It is the ninth time in her career she has recorded five or more saves.
- After surrendering six shots in the first half, the Gators' defense held the Cougars to just two shots after the intermission.
- SF State returns to action next Friday when they travel to Cal Poly Humboldt. The Jacks are 6-6-1 overall after defeating Chico State 3-2 in Arcata on Sunday.
The first seven minutes featured little action from either side as the two teams attempted to gain some momentum.
The Cougar's Natalie Huntington took the first shot of the contest in the eighth minute that Tone saved.
After back-to-back corner kicks by the Cougars, Cal State San Marcos scored the game's only goal when Natalie Paulson took the feed from Gabby Marsh and Daniel Paulson for her first goal of the season.
The Cougars attempted four more shots late in the period but Tone was up to the task, notching three more saves.
In the 40th minute, SF State had its best chance to score when
Grace Messenger blasted a shot that went just wide left of the goal.
After the break, both offenses were held to a pair of corner kicks and just two shots. Tone notched her fifth and final save in the 79th minute.
Kylie Tone (0-4-0) played the full 90 minutes and finished with five saves on six shots faced. She lowers her goals against average to 1.42. The win went to Allison Marcure (6-3-4).
The Gators return to the road next Friday when they take on Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata. Kick-off is scheduled at 12:30 p.m. Live stats will be available at
