POMONA, Calif. — An early lead wasn't enough on Friday as the San Francisco State women's soccer team fell to No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona, 3-1 in their CCAA opener.
- SF State falls to 3-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league action while the Broncos remain a perfect 8-0-0 in 2024, and 1-0-0 in CCAA play.
- Brynn Reyes netted her first goal of the 2024 campaign and fourth in her collegiate career. Lauren François provided the assist, her first of the year.
- Reyes' score gave the Broncos their first in-game deficit of 2024.
- Friday's contest was SF State's third against a top-25 foe this season.
Goalkeeper Cameryn Nunn was tested early, recording a save in the second minute of play, one of three saves she had in the first half.
In the 12th minute, François sent in a corner kick that found Reyes, who one-timed it to the lower-right corner of the goal for the early 1-0 lead. The goal was the just the fourth score conceded by the Broncos this season, who entered the contest ranked tied-for-16th nationally with just .429 goals allowed per game.
Cal Poly Pomona responded 12 minutes later as Liberty Ortiz scored on a free kick from outside the box, leveling the score 1-1 going into halftime.
Kylie Tone started the second half in goal for the Gators and made her first save of the day in the 56th minute. Vanessa Cruz put the hosts up 2-1 in the 60th, firing it past Tone to the upper left part of the goal, and Lavinia Vaipulu made it 3-1 in the 71st.
Nunn (3-3-0) got her seventh start between the posts for the Gators and Tone saw her fourth appearance of the year. Each 'keeper made three saves.
Bella Hara (8-0-0) made one save on four total shots for the Broncos.
