SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A slow start proved costly for the San Francisco State women's soccer team, who fell to host Cal State San Bernardino, 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
- The Gators move to 3-6-0 overall and 0-2-0 in CCAA play, while CSUSB goes to 2-2-4, 1-0-1.
- Cameryn Nunn got her seventh start of the year, registering four saves. Sunday was the fourth contest this season in which she has made four-or-more saves.
- Kelsey Burrus, Rachel Handy and Samantha Shim each had shots in the match.
The Coyotes scored 30 seconds into the afternoon off the foot of Bella Cervantes. Unieque Solis made it a 2-0 advantage with a penalty kick past the diving Nunn in the ninth minute.
Nunn got her first save in the 20th minute of play, and Shim looked to get the Gators on the board in the 27th minute but her shot went just wide of the far post.
Nunn stepped up in the 61st minute as she dove to her right to stop a penalty kick, the first PK save of her career, and keep it a two-score game. The hosts scored on a breakaway as Emilee Perez netted her first of the season with seven minutes left in regulation, sending CSUEB home with a 3-0 win.
Nunn goes to 3-4-0 in 2024 for the Gators.
Leila Peregrina (2-2-4), who has played every minute in goal for the Coyotes this year, made one save.
"Today we had a great game plan and we feel it showed. This beautiful game can be cruel sometimes. Above that, we are starting to see our culture and identity take shape. We worked hard, were composed and, when needed, we showed our grit," said Head Coach Sebastian Carrasco. "Unfortunately we conceded a goal with a minute to go to an FPU team that also never gave up."
The Gators take on Chico State on Friday, October 11 at 3 p.m. at Cox Stadium. Live stats will be available at sfstategators.com and fans can stream the match live on FloFC.
