SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - The San Francisco State women's basketball team closed out the weekend with a 77-49 loss to Dominican on Saturday night.
- SF State falls to 1-3 on the young season while Dominican improves to 2-4.
- Alexsandra Alvarado was the sole Gators to reach double figures in scoring wtih 16 points. She also went 6-for-8 from the free throw line.
- The Penguins had major advantages in rebounds (54 to 36) and bench points (40 to 10).
- The Gators shot 24.9 percent from the field and allowed the Penguins to shoot 46.9.
- Dominican had four players in double figures and 11 players contribute to scoring.
The Gators were able to stay within a possession throughout most of the first quarter. Alvarado made both shots at the line to cut the Dominican lead down to 15-12 with 3:49 remaining. But the Penguins closed out the quarter with a 14-3 run to take a huge lead into the next frame. The Gators were held to 27.8 percent shooting in the second quarter while Dominican shot 41.2 percent to extend their lead to 49-28 heading into the second half.
Outside of Alvarado and a pair of free throw by Perséas Gioukaris, the Gators were not getting scoring contributions in the third as the Penguins continued to extend their lead.
