How It Happened

Four straight aces from Taylor Vales got the Gators off to a hot start, leading 14-10 before the first Stanislaus timeout. After a second Stanislaus timeout, the Warriors went on a 7-1 run to tie the set at 17 all. The Warriors would force the Gators to side out every time they got the serve back and strung together a couple of runs to claim victory in set one.

After starting set two down 6-2, the Gators used a 5-0 run capped by an ace from Asia Arbaugh to retake the lead. The Gators trailed again 13-11 but Vales came up clutch with a pair of aces in a 5-0 run to lead 16-13. SF State dominated the rest of the way with Issak landing kills for three of the four last points of the set.

The Gators led by as much as six to start the third set but Stanislaus crawled back. A 5-0 run flipped the script for the Warriors and gave them a 20-17 lead before the Gators called their second timeout. Trailing 24-20, the Gators came back within one down 24-23, but Stanislaus' attack grazed a Gator blocker and the Warriors took the second set.

Stanislaus came out strong and led by as much as seven points in set four. A couple of kills from Goodrich and some errors from Stanislaus got the Gators within two down 14-12. Coming out of a time-out, the Warriors were able to capitalize on Gator errors to cushion their lead. The Gator offense could not get enough going to overcome the deficit and the Warriors took the match.
