SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The San Francisco State men's basketball team dropped their exhibition contest to UC Santa Barbara, 96-47 on Monday night.

- Tyjean Burrell led all players with 19 points, 11 of which came in the first half. The redshirt junior has scored double-digit points in five of his last six games dating back to last season.

Burrell scored the first four points of the night for SF State off assists from Pearse Uniacke and Bakke. UC Santa Barbara pushed its lead to 12-7 with 14:08 left in the first following a triple by Jason Fontenet II. Burrell answered with a three-pointer of his own as he continued his strong start and end a 6-0 run by the Gauchos at the ten-minute mark. The hosts ended the half with a 19-3 run, with those three SF State points coming on Smith's jumper and and-one free throw, and carried a 40-20 lead at the break.
Caleb Oden's layup got the scoring started in the second half, and Burrell followed with his fifth field goal of the game less than a minute later. Caden Flowers dished out his fourth assist of the night on a three-pointer by Burrell to narrow the deficit to 51-27, and he added another the following possession. CJ Bellamy made back-to-back triples around the ten-minute mark, cutting it to 64-40. An 18-2 Gaucho run pushed their advantage to 82-42 with just over four minutes left. Elijah Newsome got his first bucket of the game with 2:19 left in regulation, which was a three-pointer off an assist from Fedrick Pernell.
The Gators return to Northern California to kick off the 2024-25 campaign at the Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic in Rohnert Park, Calif., tipping off play against Academy of Art on Friday, Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. before taking on Dominican at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9.
