CHICO, Calif. – The San Francisco State men's basketball team had a rough night from beyond the arc in the 79-62 loss at Chico State at Art Acker Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
- With the loss, the Gators fall to 3-6 on the year and are now 1-2 in CCAA. Chico State improved to 6-2 on the season and is 3-0 in conference play.
- The Gators shot 45.5 percent from the field on Saturday, going 25-for-55.
- Inside the arc the Gators shot 60.5 percent, going 23-for-38. SF State scored 46 of its 62 points in the paint.
- Two players finished in double figures led by forward John Bakke's 12 points. CJ Bellamy finished with a season-high 10 points.
With their top scorer unavailable today, the Gators kept the game tight through most of the opening half. With 12:40 to play in the opening period, Donovan Cooks hit a layup to make the score 17-15.
A 25-7 run by the Wildcats to end the half gave the host a 20-point cushion and never looked back, going into the locker room leading 44-26 at the half.
SF State had good balance on offense in the first, with seven players scoring at least two points. Jackson led the way with six first-half points. Bellamy had five, while Cooks and Bakke had four each.
Out of the break, the Wildcats pushed their lead to 27, 68-41 following a bucket in the paint from Jojo Murphy, it was part of Murphy's game-high 21 points.
The Gators went on a 10-0 scoring run late in the game to cut the deficit to 17 following a bucket from Uniacke. A three from Bellamy made it a 15-point contest, 73-58 Wildcats, but the Gators could not get any closer.
The Gators wrap up their three-game road trip on Sunday, Dec. 22 when they take on Cal State East Bay at Pioneer Gymnasium.
