AZUSA, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team fell 7-1 in their series opener with Azusa Pacific at the Cougar Baseball Complex Thursday evening. Six runs in the third proved costly for the Gators.
- SF State falls to 4-3 while APU improves to 3-7
- The Gators had five hits on the day with none going for extra bases. Armando Murillo was the lone Gator with multiple hits, going 2-for-4.
- SF State had a season high four errors. Three of APU's runs were unearned.
- The Gators had 10 left on base compared to APU's seven.
SF State loaded the bases with one out in the second but only scored off a sac fly by
Antonio Nanez. The Cougars batted around the lineup in the third, scoring six runs off five hits and an error. The Cougars added an insurance run in the eighth to increase the lead to 7-1.
- Nathan Shinn (0-3) went four innings, tossing seven strikeouts while giving up six hits, six runs (four earned) and two walks.
- River Diaz de Leon pitch two innings in relief, tossing a strike while giving up a walk.
- Daniel Smith went two innings, giving up three hits and one unearned run.
- Isaac Mendez picked up the win for the Cougars, tossing 10 strikeouts in the process. Alfredo Frey earned the save pitching three innings.
