SEASIDE, Calif. — The San Francisco State softball team dropped it series with Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday. After splitting the first two games on Saturday, SF State dropped the final two games of the series, 4-0 and 8-3.
- With the series shifted from SF State to the turf at Seaside, the Gators retained the designation of home team for the four-game series.
- SF State moves to 5-11 overall and is 2-6 in CCAA play thus far. CSUMB evens its record to 8-8 overall and to 5-3 in CCAA play.
- Phoebe Schultz launched her third home run of the season in game two, a three-run shot to dead center.
- The Gators had just five hits on the day and down to their final three outs in game two, avoided being both no-hit and run-ruled.
- Kai DeLeon had a walk in each game and a hit in game two. She has now reached safely in 15 of the Gators' 16 games this season. She also scored in game two and has scored a run in 13 games this season. Her nine walks are fourth-most among CCAA players.
Game One
- Kai DeLeon started off the game with a full-count walk but was caught stealing. Mia Misasi singled in the bottom of the third but was stranded. The Gators drew back-to-back walks in the fourth but left the pair stranded. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Lexi Holihan doubled to left center. Marissa Jordan followed with a walk but pinch hitter Emily Madrigal misread the situation and was caught stealing to end the game.
- The Otters took the lead in the first when Olli Perez drew a four-pitch walk and later scored after an Anastacia Alba double and Nani Areola groundout.
- A Stenson fielding error on a routine groundball led to an insurance run for the Otters in the fifth. Ashley Honorio reached first safely on the play and Jackie Peralas scored from third on the error.
- Back-to-back doubles from Peralas and Jessica Kim made it 3-0 in the sixth inning.
- Three Otters singles plated a fourth run in the seventh inning.
- Mari Takeda Bajan (2-3) surrendered four runs, three earned, on seven hits. She struck out four.
- Nia Trinidad gave up an RBI single with an inherited runner on base but did induce an inning-ending double play ball in an inning of work.
- Mackenzie Willis (5-4) scattered two hits in a complete-game effort. She struck out seven and walked five.
Game Two
- DeLeon and Stenson drew walks and Kira Nilson reached twice by error but the Gators couldn't get anything going in the early innings.
- Peralas put the Otters up 2-0 in the fourth with a two-out single down the right field line.
- The Otters made the hope of a comeback slim when they recorded five runs on five hits in the fifth.
- An error and a passed ball in the sixth led to yet another Otters run.
- Down 8-0 and facing being run-ruled in the bottom of the sixth, DeLeon broke up the no-hitter with a single to center. With one out, Daniella Guerrera doubled, which chased Otters starter, Kelsey Alcantara. Phoebe Schultz homered to make it 8-3.
- Elise Roy (2-4) gave up five runs on seven hits in four and two thirds innings.
- Kaitlyn Maddux recorded one out and gave up two runs on three hits.
- Trinidad was charged with an unearned run in the final two innings of work.
- Alcantara (1-1) was charged with two runs on two hits over five and a third innings. She walked two and struck out two. Willis came in for the final inning and a two thirds and surrendered the Schultz home run.
The Gators have the week off before hosting Academy of Art in non-conference play on Tuesday, March 5 in an 11 a.m. doubleheader. The games will be broadcast on the
