HAYWARD, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team hit the ball a season-high 18 times in a 11-4 win over Cal State East Bay to open the series. Every player in the line-up registered a hit against the Pioneers.
- SF State improves to 14-9 and 8-5 in the CCAA while Cal State East Bay falls to 12-9 and 4-5 in the CCAA.
- The Gators also matched their season high in doubles with five. Jacob French had two on the day.
- Justin Johnson hit his fifth home run of the season.
- East Bay had 13 hits on the day but left 10 runners on base.
The Gators batted around the order in the first inning.
Jacob French hit the first ball he saw four an RBI double. With runners in scoring position,
Daniel Santos cleared the bases with a two RBI single.
AJ Schrader hit his first hit of the season for a double down the left line to plate the fourth run of the inning.
Ryan Garza allowed a pair of lead-off hits but only one crossed home plate to cut the Gators' lead 4-1.
Justin Johnson hit a two-run homer over left center in the sixth.
The Pioneers cut into the Gators lead with a pair of runs in the fourth, one off a sac fly and one off the error from the short stop Murillo. The Gators got those runs back in the fifth with a pair of two-out RBI singles from Schrader and
Nicholas Cook. The Gators had another two-out rally in the sixth when
Daniel Santos and
Anthony Alvarez hit back-to-back RBI singles to extend the Gators lead to 10-3 in the sixth. The Gators tacked on another run in the seventh when Cooks scored from third off a wild pitch. East Bay hit a two-out rbi single in the bottom of the ninth but could not get enough going to extend the game.
- Garza (3-1) went six innings and gave up nine hits but only allowed three runs with two being earned. He also had five strikeouts.
- Ethan Remmers pitched two scoreless innings for the Gators.
- Garrett Jensen pitched the final frame, tossing one strikeout and giving up one run.
- Gabe Tanner (5-1) took his first lose of the season. The Gators rocked the reigning CCAA Pitcher of the week and recorded 16 hits and 10 earned runs on him through six innings.
