How It Happened

The Gators put up crooked numbers in the second. Nicholas Cook singled to left field to bring a pair of runners home. Armando Murillo and Jacob French hit back-to-back RBI doubles to extend the lead to 4-0. An RBI single by Derek Laferierre brought French home and forced a pitching change by the Pioneers. Johnson capped off the scoring for the Gators with a double to extend the lead to 6-0.

Johnson added to the lead in the fourth with a sac fly in shallow right field to advance runners at second and third. Santos chopped the ball up the middle to make it a 8-0 ball game.

The Pioneers got on the board in the fourth with a two-run homer from Alonzo Guijarro. The Gators would get both runs back when Cook would score on a throwing error and Murillo was plated home off a single by French. Luke Novitske hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning to cut into the Gators' lead 10-5.

Santos launched a two-run homer over left field with no outs in the sixth. Andrew Silva doubled on the next at bat, AJ Schrader brought him home with a triple and ran home on a fielder's choice. Gators continued their damage in the seventh when Johnson hit a two-run homer and Cook and Murillo hit back-to-back two-out RBI singles. Both runners were able to score on an error by the second baseman when the ball slipped past his glove to go up 20-5. The Pioneers would score a run in the bottom of the inning, but Santos responded with a solo home run.
