SB | Misasi, Gonzales Homer as Gators Split Day one at Stan State

TURLOCK, Calif. — The San Francisco State softball team got a pair of seventh-inning home runs to take game two of Friday's doubleheader versus Stanislaus State at Warrior Field. The Gators fell 7-4 in the series opener but took the nightcap, 4-2.

  • SF State moves to 13-16 and to 9-9 in conference play on the year. The Warriors are now 11-17 and 7-10 in CCAA action.
  • Phoebe Schultz had a pair of two-hit games and drove in two in the loss. Kai DeLeon had a two-hit game in game one, and Marley Gonzales and Daniella Guerrera also had two hits apiece in game two.
  • DeLeon has now reached safely in 25 of the Gators' 27 games this season. She also had three of the team's six stolen bases.
  • The Gators outhit the Warriors 19-13 over the two games. The Gators had 11 hits in game two, which is tied for third-most in a game by the team this season.
  • SF State turned its fifteenth double play of the season in game two, a 4-3 groundout that made quick work of the Warriors in the third.

  • SF State took the lead in the first on Daniella Guerrera's bunt single. Pinch runner Emily Madrigal stole second and later scored on a Nilson double to left center to make it 2-0.
  • The Warriors got a run back in the bottom of the first on a two-out RBI single from Sasha Martello.
  • San Francisco State got the run back in the third when Schultz connected for a two-out RBI single that scored DeLeon.
  • However, the Gators couldn't get a shutdown inning and the Warriors responded with six runs over the next four innings. Stan State pulled back within a run in the bottom of the third thanks to Mikaela Ferreria's two-out RBI double.
  • A four-hit, three-run fourth gave the Warriors the lead for good, 5-3. Stan State added an unearned run in the fifth and another again in the sixth.
  • The Gators got a run back in the seventh on a Schultz two-out RBI single down the left field line.

  • Mari Takeda Bajan (5-6) went the distance but gave up seven runs, five earned, on nine hits. She struck out a pair.
  • Victoria Alarcon (1-5) gave up three runs on five hits. She struck out four over four and two thirds innings.
  • Martello earned her second save with an unearned run on three hits over two and a third innings.

How They Scored


 
  • Both teams scored twice in the first inning. DeLeon led off with a double, stole third, and scored on a Guerrera single to center. With Guerrera at third, Nilson drew a throw on a steal attempt, then got caught in a rundown, which allowed Guerrera to score. 
  • Ferreira answered in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer.
  • In the second, SF State stranded a pair on first and second while the Warriors left the bases loaded, and SF State left a pair in scoring position in the third.
  • The Gators finally broke through in the seventh when Mia Misasi sent a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left for a 3-2 Gators lead.
  • With one out in the seventh, Gonzales homered to center field to make it 4-2.
  • The Gators stranded a pair but the Warriors went down in order in the seventh.

  • Gators starter Elise Roy (7-5) allowed just two earned runs on four hits. She walked four and struck out a pair.
  • Shelby Frutoz (2-8) went six and a third innings. She allowed nine hits and was charged with all four Gators runs, though she did strike out eight. Sasha Martello gave up two hits and struck out one in two thirds innings of work.
