SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team had a huge rally in the eighth inning to take game one with Stanislaus State 12-11. Trailing 11-6 in the bottom of the eighth, the Gators rallied to plate six runs and Andrew Silva retired all three batters faced in the ninth to claim victory over the Warriors.
- SF State improves to 21-14 and 15-10 in conference. Stanislaus falls to 13-22-1 and 9-18 in the CCAA
- Both Justin Johnson and Jacob French went 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs. Johnson, who has a CCAA leading 46 RBIs, cracked the single season top ten list and sits in ninth. French, who became the first player to reach 50 hits on the season, currently sits in eighth in the conference in that category.
- Cole Thompson, AJ Schrader and Derek Laferriere also hit doubles on the day.
- Flavio Perez was the X-factor for the Warriors, knocking in five runs off three hits that included a double and a home run.
- The Gators left five runners on base compared to the Warriors' 10.
The Gators put up crooked numbers in the third to take an early 4-0 lead. Thompson, Laferriere and Johnson all hit RBI doubles in the inning while French plated a runner with an RBI single. Perez got the Warriors on the board in the fourth with a an RBI single. He homered in the sixth and Stanislaus cut the lead by one with an RBI double. With bases loaded in the top of the seventh, Perez hit an two-run RBI double to give Stanislaus its first lead of the day. The Warriors added two more runs to take a 7-4 lead.
The Gators came back within two in the seventh. Silva hit an RBI single to left field and
Armando Murillo hit a sac fly to drive home another run. The Gators ran into trouble in the top of the eighth. With two outs and bases loaded, the Warriors drew back-to-back RBI walks and an single down the left line by Jacob Baker plated two more runs. Down 11-6 in the eighth, the Gators loaded the bases with one out. Thompson brought one runner in with a single to right field. French hit a big two-out two run RBI single to cut the lead to two. With bases loaded, everyone advanced 90 feet off a wild pitch to make it a one-run game. Johnson brought both runners in scoring position home to tie then take the lead.
Andrew Silva moved to the mound in the ninth to provide a clean inning of work for the Gators and retired all three batters faced.
- Ryan Garza went 6.1 innings and tossed five strikeouts while giving up seven runs, 12 hits and two walks. Four of those runs came during the seventh inning.
- Ethan Remmers pitched 1.1 innings, giving up four runs, three walks and two hits.
- Trent Lopez (1-0) earned his first win of the season with a third of an inning of work.
- Andrew Silva moved from first to the pitcher's mound and retired all three batters faced for his fourth save of the season. The Gators' closer also had a good day at the plate and went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
- Noah Chelberg (0-3) drew the loss for Stanislaus.
