How It Happened

  • The Gators struck first with Santos' two-out single through the left side but the Warriors answered in the top of the second. Madrigal and Perez led off the inning with back-to-back hits and Madrigal scored on a Murphy groundout.
  • SF State retook the lead in the fourth inning. Allred and Smith drew back-to-back walks and Smith eventually scored on an Olimpia single to left center.
  • However, the Gators failed again to get a shutdown inning and the Warriors capitalized with a two-out rally. A Madrigal single to right field tied the game and Stan State took the lead on a Perez single to short.
  • The Warriors grew their lead to 4-2 in the seventh. Chris Catalano tripled down the first base line, though the Gators eventually got him out at home on a squeeze play. Madrigal had another two-out single to extend the lead.
  • This time it was Stan State who couldn't get the shutdown inning and the Gators took the lead for good in the seventh. Thompson, Murrillo, and French all singled to load the bases. Laferreire hit into a double play, though a run scored to make it 4-3. A throwing error by shortstop Robert Valdivia allowed Johnson to score and tied the game at 4-4. Santos drew a walk that chased reliever Damian Vallejos. JoJo Keldsen walked the first batter he faced, Allred, then AJ Schrader delieverd a pinch-hit single to give the Gators the lead. Olimpia capped off the rally with another RBI single.
  • The Gators doubled their lead in the eighth with another two-out rally. Johnson singled home a run and Allred drew a bases-loaded walk.
