ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The San Francisco State softball team's playoff hopes will come down to the final day of the 2024 season after dropping Friday's doubleheader at Sonoma State, 4-0 and 3-2.
- SF State moves to 20-25 and to 16-18 in CCAA play. SF State sits in sixth place, two games behind Cal State East Bay, though the Gators hold the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Pioneers. The Gators' magic number is one – either a Gators victory on Saturday or a Cal State San Bernardino win over Cal Poly Humboldt will puch the Gators' ticket into the 2024 CCAA Softball Tournament.
- The first-place Seawolves improve to 29-15 overall and 22-10 in CCAA play, clinching the regular season championship.
- The Gators mustered just two hits in game one, both off the bat of Lexi Holihan. Holihan also had one of the team's two RBI in game two. The Gators had four hits in that game.
- SF State swiped three bases on Friday, bringing their team total to a CCAA-leading 70. The 70 stolen bases also ranks seventh most in a single season in program history, four behind the 1997 and 2020 squads.
Game One
- SF State had an opportunity in the first when Kai DeLeon reached on an error. She moved up on a sac bunt and was called safe on a stolen base attempt of third base, but was called out at home on a squeeze attempt.
- The Seawolves took the lead on a three-run second inning. A leadoff walk proved costly when Jasmine Moreno reached and later came around to score. Skylar Linnane, who tripled Moreno home, scored on a Carissa Marquez single to left field. Gianna Hays capped off the rally with an RBI single that scored Marquez.
- SSU added a run in the fourth when Rylee Nishimoto tripled and scored on an error.
- Mari Takeda Bajan (7-12) allowed four runs on six hits in three and a third innings of work for the Gators.
- Kaitlyn Maddux struck out four in two and two thirds innings of scoreless relief work.
- Bailee Reed (16-5), coming off of CCAA Pitcher of the Week honors, had another solid outing with a two-hit, complete-game shutout for the Seawolves. She faced just three over the minimum, walked one, and struck out eight.
Game Two
- Sonoma State took the lead in the first inning when Moreno drew a bases-loaded walk.
- SF State tied it in the third inning when Holihan drew an eight-pitch, full-count, two-out, bases-loaded walk. However, the Gators left them loaded. That proved costly when the Seawolves answered with a two-out rally in the bottom of the third. Linnane singled home the go-ahead run and Kaiya Dickens scored on a wild pitch.
- The Gators got a run back in the seventh. Rylee McDaniel doubled and later scored on a Marley Gonzales RBI groundout but the Gators weren't able to complete the comeback.
- Elise Roy (12-8) allowed three runs on eight hits in six innings of work. She struck out two and walked three, though two walks and a hit batter led to a run in the first inning.
- Nichole Sarra went two and two third innings for the Seawolves. She gave up two hits and an unearned run with four walks.
- Charlie Johnson (8-3) picked up the win in relief. She allowed a run on two hits over four and a third innings of work. Johnson walked two and struck out one.
The Gators wrap up the regular season on Saturday, April 27 with a Noon doubleheader at Sonoma State. The series will be streamed on the
