ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The San Francisco State softball team took care of business in the final game of the regular season to punch its ticket to the CCAA Tournament. The Gators dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker but locked up their fate with a 1-0 win in game two of the doubleheader at Sonoma State on Saturday.
- SF State moves to 21-26 and finishes CCAA play at 17-19, good for the No. 6 seed in next week's tournament.
- The first-place Seawolves move to 30-16 overall and with their win in game one, locked up sole possession of the regular season banner with a 23-11 mark
- The Gators got a pair of big hits from Daniella Guerrera, who drove in both of the Gators' runs on the day. She leads the Gators with 26 RBI.
- Marley Gonzales had a pair of steals, bringing her season total to a team-leading 22 and the team's total to a league-best 72. Gonzales' 22 are currently 11th most in a single season by a Gator.
Game One
- The Gators struck first with Guerrera's single that scored Gonzales, who reached on an infield single and stole second.
- Kaitlyn Maddux walked in a run in the third but got a bases-loaded groundout to first to limit the damage.
- Both teams made noise but had nothing to show for it in the fourth. Lexi Holihan doubled off of the yellow of the left field fence. Pinch runner Emily Madrigal got to third on a passed ball but attempted to get home and the Seawolves caught a break when catcher Taylor Ramp tossed back to pitcher Bailee Reed for the tag at home.
- Maddux worked out of anther pinch in the fourth after a wild pitch and a passed ball put Carissa Marquez on third base with two outs but Maddux got Zoia-Buescher to line out.
- Sonoma State took the lead for good when Jasmine Moreno singled home Lauren Mirtoni with two outs in the fifth.
- Maddux (1-4), making her first start since March 8, was effective but took the tough-luck loss. She struck out one but parts of five walks and a wild pitch did lead to a run. The two earned runs were the first runs she has given up in her last six appearances.
- Bailee Reed (17-5) continued her stellar pitching streak with a four-hit complete game. The reigning CCAA Pitcher of the Week allowed one run and struck out four with no walks.
Game Two
- The Gators got out to another early lead in the first inning thanks to another Guerrera single that scored Gonzales, who reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. This time the lead stuck.
- The Gators were unable to capitalize on a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the second. Both DeLeon and Gonzales flew out to center for the Seawolves to get out of it.
- Mia Misasi saved two runs in the bottom of the fourth with a leaping catch to end the inning.
- Elise Roy (13-8) scattered seven hits in a complete-game victory. She struck out five and did not issue a walk. Fittingly, she fielded a comebacker to help record the final out.
- Nichole Sarra (6-8) was nearly as good but took the loss for the Seawolves. She allowed just five hits but also hit three batters.
The Gators will play in a first-round elimination game on Wednesday, May 1 at Noon vs. the No. 3 seed, Cal State Dominguez Hills. For more information, visit
