CARSON, Calif. — Led by Justin Johnson's four home runs in game one, the San Francisco State baseball team hit six home runs in a game one 17-5 victory. AJ Schrader hit a three-run bomb in game two to come back within one but the Gators ultimately fell 10-5.
- SF State sits 27-22 and clinched fourth in the CCAA standings at 21-18. Cal State Dominguez Hills sits at 20-28 and 16-22 in the CCAA.
- Johnsons' big day moved him further in the record books and conference standing. With nine RBIs on the day, his conference leading 64 RBIs sits at second in a single season. His 14 home runs also sits at second. Thanks to going 6-for-9 at the plate on the day, he raised his batting average to .363 and top ten in the conference.
- Daniel Santos went 7-for-8 including a perfect 5-for-5 in game one. His 175 career hits puts him at sixth all-time.
- In addition to Johnson and Schrader, Santos and Jacob French also hit home runs.
- While the offense was quieter in game two, three turned double plays helped stop momentum.
Santos and Johnson hit back-to-back home runs to give the Gators an early 3-0 after one. Dominguez Hills got the first two outs in the second, but Murillo singled to shortstop and French launched the ball over the right field fence for the third home run of the game. Santos singled on the next at bat and Johnson hit his second home run of the game to go up 7-0. The Gator offense continued to churn in the fourth inning and scored five more runs on seven hits. The Toros finally scored in the fourth off and triple and a fielding error but the 11 runs proved to be too much to overcome. Johnson's next two home runs were responsible for four more runs for the Gators.
- Ian Sullivan (4-1) went five innings and gave up six hits, two walks and two runs. He threw one strikeout.
- Nathan Shinn pitched the final four innings and was credited with a save. He gave up six hits and three runs with all three coming in the ninth. With five strikeouts on the day, Shinn brought his career total to 180 and became the new school leader in strikeouts.
- Pat MacDonald (2-6) only made it through 1.2 innings and was charged with the loss.
Down 6-0 and not generating a lot of offense in game two, the Gators found some life in the sixth. The Toros looked to get their third out and flip the inning but French was able to come aboard on an error. Santos singled to center to advance French. Johnson's single up the middle advanced both runners two bases and allowed French to score. A wild pitched brought Santos home and
AJ Schrader hit a home run with a pair of runners on to cut the deficit to 6-5. But the Toros responded with a four-run inning in the bottom of the sixth, making the comeback tougher to pull through.
- Theo Dopkins started the bullpen game for the Gators, going one inning without giving up a run.
- Garrett Jensen (0-1) took the bad luck loss, giving up two runs in the second with none of them earned.
- James Kobylt, Trent Lopez and Anthony Alvarez all pitched in relief for the Gators.
- Julian Diaz (8-2) picked up the win without giving up an earned run. Joel Gaitan earned his first save.
