SAN RAFAEL, Calif.— For the first time this season, the San Francisco State women's soccer team allowed more than one goal, resulting in a 2-0 loss to host Dominican on Sunday afternoon at Kennelly Field.
- The Gators slip to 2-2 on the year while Dominican improves to 3-1.
- The Penguins held an 11-5 shot advantage, including a slight 4-3 shots on goal advantage, as well a 3-2 corner kick advantage.
- Both of SF State's losses this season have been shutouts.
- Dominican was issued three yellow cards while Gators defenders Lauren François and Michelle Pham each collected one.
Dominican's Ireland O'Donnell fired off the match's first shot in the 17th minute. The Gators had a couple of opportunities in the 24th and 25th minutes with a pair of corner kicks but couldn't get anything off of the set pieces. The teams traded shots in the 26th and 32nd minutes, and Dominican took the lead just before the half in the 42nd minute. Jackie Lancaster played a ball down the right sideline and sent a cross into the box to Megan Clapinski for the early lead.
The Gators' Emily Gehrlein-Allen looked to tie in the 47th minute but had her shot saved by Michelle Salas Viniegra. Rachel Handy fired off a shot in the 53rd minute that was also saved. A Penguins free kick in the 76th minute proved costly and resulted in some insurance for the home team. Emma Wilson stripped the ball from a Gators defender and passed inside the box to Ashlyn Hill, who finished into the upper V.
Cameryn Nunn (2-2-0) made two saves but was charged with the loss for the Gators.
Natalie Haro (3-1) made one save in the first half and Salas Viniegra made a pair in the second half, combining for the shutout.
