SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's soccer team scored twice late but was unable to overcome an early deficit in a 3-2 loss to Vanguard on Saturday at Thorrington Field.
- The Gators fall to 0-2-2 while Vanguard improves to 1-1-1 on the season.
- The Lions outshot the Gators 15-10, including 7-6 on goal.
- Vanguard also held a 3-1 corner kick advantage.
- Isaac Sandoval scored his second goal of the season and second on the team with four points.
- Angel Sevilliano had a goal and an assist and is third on the team with three points.
Vanguard took a 1-0 lead into the half after a goal in the 27th minute by Ben Sieber.
The Lions doubled their lead in the 59th minute thanks to Adan Alvarado's unassisted goal, then added even more insurance in the 74th minute when Sieber found Niko Ochoa for a 3-0 Lions lead. SF State finally found the back of the goal in the 84th minute when Diego Barcelos found Sevilliano, who finished to the top left. With just over a minute remaining, the Gators trimmed the lead further when Sevilliano assisted Isaac Sandoval, who went low left for the score. The Gators had a free kick in the final seconds but were unable to force the tie.
Hayden Frost (0-1-1) made a career-high four saves and also allowed a career-high three goals in the loss.
At the other end of the pitch, Aiden Hay (1-1-1) made four saves and surrendered two goals en route to the win.
